* Early versions of Photoshop had just the basic, fully functional features needed for print. Its ability to create complex image manipulations grew as it evolved.<\/p>\n
The following sections break down some of the features that are included in Photoshop.<\/p>\n
Using Menu commands to control the interface<\/p>\n
Photoshop is a very interactive program, so you often find yourself moving through menus to access the various tools you need. In this section, I point out the most common menu options, as well as some special commands that are helpful when working in the different editing modes.<\/p>\n
Figure 13-2 shows the File \u25b8 Options command menu, where you access the Edit and Enhance tabs, two features that work together. The Edit tab provides a list of the tools for creating and manipulating your image (as well as a couple of automated tools that I explain in Chapters 14 and 15). The Enhance tab provides the controls for the other major Photoshop editing option: image enhancement. You can use the Enhance controls to get your images looking better.<\/p>\n
The figure also shows you how to access other useful tools, such as the command along the bottom that pops up the Layer and Selection windows, and the pop-up menus that are associated with the image adjustment controls. A closer look at the available menus is found in the upcoming section “Taming the Colorfulness of Images.”<\/p>\n
In this book, I cover the image adjustments in Chapters 14 and 15. However, you can access all the different tool options and effects in any one of three ways:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Press Shift+F11 to display the Options bar and then select one of the tabs, such as Image, Adjustments, or History. If you don’t see the Options bar (it’s not visible in the figure), click the Page Down icon at the right end of the Quick Access toolbar to access the Options bar.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Display the Tools panel and double-click the tool that you want to use.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Type its name in the Edit \u25b8 Tools command and press Enter.<\/p>\n
Photoshop also has plenty of command line options and one of the most important is the Photoshop command-line (PS) button on the keyboard, as shown in the figure. You can use this command line to navigate to any file in your system (including your Mac) and activate Photoshop’s Save dialog box, which enables you to choose where you want to save the file. You can also combine the command-line with other command-line actions, such as Edit \u25b8 Undo<\/p>\n

Adobe Photoshop is the leading graphics software. It is used by almost every professional designer on the planet.<\/p>\n
It is used to create and modify digital photographs, illustrations, 2D and 3D objects. The interface design has, over the years, gotten more and more complex. As more features have been added, the interface has become more difficult to use.<\/p>\n

The Photoshop Launch<\/p>\n
Photoshop was first sold as a standalone package that allowed people to easily create digital images. The creators of the software were professional and had many years of experience in the field.<\/p>\n
In the 90’s, Photoshop was used for retouching images for magazine covers. In the next decade, after the introduction of the widespread use of the web, Photoshop became the standard software for designing websites.<\/p>\n
From there, Photoshop started to become the standard tool for graphic designers. Every year, more and more graphic designers started to use Photoshop to edit images.<\/p>\n
Photoshop didn’t become the leader of the graphic design tool market because it had better features. The reason why Photoshop became the go-to graphics program was the ease of use and a friendly interface.<\/p>\n
Adobe Photoshop Workspace<\/p>\n
In today’s applications, Photoshop\u2019s features include a highly sophisticated workspace called the Adobe Photoshop Workspace.<\/p>\n
Here, you can upload, edit and organize media, and the latest version of your image.<\/p>\n
You can also display statistics like editing time and the number of pixels used. You can also view the time it takes to open Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.<\/p>\n

The most important part of Photoshop is the Adobe Photoshop Workspace.<\/p>\n
This workspace contains files that the software has access to. It is the workspace where you can upload your files, add files and organize your files into folders.<\/p>\n
Depending on the version of Photoshop that you have, you will have a different workspace.<\/p>\n
In Photoshop CS7 you have a workspace with the sidebar on the left.<\/p>\n
In Photoshop CS10 and above you have a workspace with a sidebar in the bottom of the screen.<\/p>\n
Sometimes, you can also find the Spotlight search bar on the top right of the workspace.<\/p>\n

Two-step decrease of reactive intermediates in insulin-activated erythrocytes by Pb2+ or Hg2+.
\nThe kinetics of a two-step oxidation of glutathione by 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene was studied in the presence of Pb(2+) or Hg(2+) in erythrocytes. The inhibition of glutathione oxidation by Pb(2+) and Hg(2+) was irreversible. This effect depended on the incubation time and the concentration of the metal ions. The rate of glutathione oxidation in erythrocytes stimulated by insulin (final concentration, 5 U\/ml) decreased in the presence of Pb(2+) or Hg(2+) in comparison with that in the presence of sodium dithionite. The presence of Pb(2+) and Hg(2+) during incubation of cells with insulin resulted in a more pronounced decrease of glutathione oxidation in comparison with that caused by the same concentrations of the metal ions when they were added separately. The combined effect of insulin and Pb(2+) or Hg(2+) was blocked by cytochalasin B. An increase of insulin concentration in cells stimulated with insulin (final concentration, 10 U\/ml) and incubated in the presence of Pb(2+) or Hg(2+) enhanced the decrease of glutathione oxidation by 40-70% in comparison with the corresponding values in the presence of Pb(2+) or Hg(2+) alone. The half-time of the glutathione oxidation decreased twice in erythrocytes stimulated with insulin and in the presence of metal ions. The decrease of glutathione oxidation was much higher in the presence of Pb(2+) than in the presence of Hg(2+). Glutathione oxidation was completely restored by addition of insulin. The data obtained on the presence of insulin in incubations with Pb(2+) or Hg(2+) indicate the following. A) A decrease of oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species generated by the metal ions is due to the decrease of the intensity of superoxide anions generated by red cells and activated by the metal ions; B) An increase of oxidative damage in cells incubated with the metal ions in the presence of insulin is due to the higher formation of hydrogen peroxide generated by the metal ions in conjunction with higher prooxidant activity of metal ions<\/p>\n
