Of all of the books on this list, the book by Neal Boudette is my favorite. I particularly like his technical approach to teaching and his willingness to answer reader questions and to provide more specific information on subjects that may be unclear. This book was one of the first I read when I was just starting to learn Photoshop, and I have found it to be one of the most helpful books for learning Photoshop.<\/p>\n

During a brief news conference Friday in Aurora, Colo., White House press secretary Sean Spicer said the extent of the attack, which occurred at a food festival, was \u201ca lot more than a political statement.\u201d He did not, however, immediately indicate whether the president, who was in Florida for another weekend, was briefed on the killings and would respond.<\/p>\n
The suspected gunman, who was killed by police, was believed to be the lone gunman, as a second man was arrested and said to be the shooter\u2019s roommate.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had a vendetta, this suspect, and it would appear that he was on a killing spree that lasted at least five hours,\u201d Lt. William Farrar of the El Paso Police Department said at a news conference early Friday. \u201cIn other words, he basically went from house to house killing people with no apparent rhyme or reason.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Farrar, the suspect, who was white, began firing at a white SUV and randomly killed 10 people, both inside the vehicle and in two homes. Six people were killed inside the moving SUV and four people, including the suspected shooter, died after the vehicle hit a home.<\/p>\n
Police said that a ninth victim, who was a police officer, died after being taken to a hospital.<\/p>\n

The El Paso Police Department is working with the Texas Department of Public Safety to investigate the attack. Officials said they do not have any motive yet.<\/p>\n

By early Friday, the police did not find any weapons at the suspect\u2019s home, according to Farrar. A search was underway to determine if he had a weapon inside the home.<\/p>\n

Why Saudi Arabia needs to open its economy<\/p>\n
Last weekend, the World Economic Forum (WEF) held its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. One of the panels discussed the \u2018fourth industrial revolution.\u2019 In simple terms, this refers to a much more advanced set of technologies\u2014including AI, robotics, self-driving cars, and other technologies\u2014that promise to disrupt many of the traditional paths to economic success. And it is no surprise to see the weltraliberal clique of Swiss political and economic elites prefer to focus on the benefits of robotics and innovation.<\/p>\n
Like most insights from business economists, this includes a heavy dose of unexamined assumptions: first, that the Industrial Revolution that created a massive accumulation of global wealth also created a net economic surplus (though not as much as the public thinks); second, that free markets are the best way to organize the economy; and, third, that advanced technologies always benefit the economy.<\/p>\n
As such, one of the goals of this panel was to discuss the risks and benefits of the evolving technologies to society and what governments should do to ensure the economy benefits society. But the most interesting element of the talk was the panelist\u2019s examination of the role of Saudi Arabia in this conversation.<\/p>\n
That is because, for the first time, Saudi Arabia joined the WEF panel. The question arose whether this should be the case in a panel discussion on the future of technology given the kingdom\u2019s severe human rights record. In November 2016, the Saudi government executed 47 men for a range of charges\u2014including drug smuggling, rape, and murder.<\/p>\n
Perhaps that was the reason that instead of the usual \u201chands off\u201d message, the Saudi Arabian minister of economy and industry told the audience:<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are open to the world. We are open to the world, but we don\u2019t want [the world] to meddle in our affairs.\u201d<\/p>\n
What does this mean?<\/p>\n
Well, for one thing, Saudi Arabia is clearly aware of just how important the economy is to the country\u2019s future, and how to nurture the private sector is a top priority. Saudi Arabia will always have a populist bent. But what will also surprise western economic pundits and commentators is how much attention Saudi Arabia is devoting to education reform and the economy: here, it is embracing a more open economy.<\/p>\n
