Free AutoCAD Tips

Use the Navigation Bar to find commands and objects.

Use the Navigation Bar at the top of the window to browse a menu of options available on the screen. The menu contains shortcuts for selecting commands, objects, and dimensions, plus the commands for selecting and editing layers and rendering options. To switch the view to drawing mode, choose View menu/View Options/Drawing/Mode/Drawing.

You can also click the View Options/Navigation Bar/Drawing/Edit/Shape Mode button on the toolbar to toggle between the Quick Selection mode, the Draw and Modify mode, and the Dimension mode. When you press ENTER while the drawing is in Quick Selection mode, you enter Edit mode, and objects are selected automatically.

The Navigation Bar is also where you can turn on and off the Display Options/Rendering Options/3D Layers/Background Settings. Click the Display Options/Navigation Bar/Display Options button on the toolbar to toggle between the current visibility of the various layers, and the background.

The Navigation Bar at the top of the window allows you to navigate between drawing windows and the various drawing properties. You can switch back and forth between the Normal Drawing window and the Properties window, and between the viewports and the 3D Preview window. You can also switch to the other views by choosing View menu/View Options/Other (or View menu/View Options/Other/Axes/3D).

You can also switch between document windows from the Navigation Bar. Select a drawing window from the menu, and then click the drawing window icon to switch to it. Use the View menu/Window menu/Layout/Document to switch to the Layout menu and select the desired window.

History

AutoCAD was first released in 1982 as one of the first 3D CAD programs. It was originally developed at the San Jose State University and later sold to Autodesk, where it is still supported.

Version 2 (1987) was a fast-growing program due to its relative affordability and ease of use compared to then competitors. In 1992, AutoCAD 4 was released. Its increased capabilities and compatibility resulted in the number of users of AutoCAD to soar. AutoCAD 4.5 was released in 1995 with the latest version being AutoCAD LT. The software became even more complex and popular. Users could now download AutoCAD Parts directly from the software itself, reducing the need for inventory tracking. AutoCAD was a pioneer in the field of dynamic 3D objects, a concept that would later be used by other applications such as Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Inventor.

AutoCAD V5 was released in 1998. It offered 3D view-ports and better interoperability with other software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD LT. It would also be the first version of AutoCAD to support the BIM-partner exchange format.

The 3D features of the 2004 release of AutoCAD LT (which had been renamed from AutoCAD Architectural for this release) were so improved that it was finally able to compete directly with other applications such as 3ds Max.

AutoCAD 2007 was released in February 2007. The first part of the title contained some changes to the user interface to make it friendlier to newcomers. A couple of major upgrades were also added such as support for Windows Vista as well as ease of handling complex drawing files.

The 2007 release of AutoCAD was part of a decision to concentrate on the user interface and usability. One major feature was that the user could now access a family tree of drawings in the cloud, rather than having to store their data on a local computer. This feature can be accessed from any computer and is stored in a central location such as an Autodesk Exchange account.

When the keygen window pops up press OK.

Go to AutoCAD Start Menu and find Autodesk AutoCAD and Autodesk AutoCAD 2013 and click on them.

Start AutoCAD and follow the screen instructions.

A workaround for me was to re-download the free trial, which runs from within AutoCAD 2013 itself.

Find a free trial in the list and click on it
Click on ‘Free trial downloads’
Click on ‘Download’
Select the download that ends in ‘2020_01_01’ (ie. that was the last available version).
