Development
Roblox was created by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel in 2004. According to Cassel, the two of them met in 2003 when they were 15 years old and both playing Halo on Xbox live. They had played Halo prior to the release of Halo 2, but after Halo 2 was released, they stopped playing as they felt that the game wasn’t really challenging. They then began work on a different, more challenging game. Cassel was in eighth grade at the time and Baszucki was in eleventh grade. They originally intended to use original tools to write the game, which in Cassel’s words was a “huge pain to use”. They then switched to C++, which they found easier to use.
