Wormhole: The 3D Survival Shooter is the first ‘Adventure Game’ to ever grace Xbox Live Indie Game Marketplace. The premise of Wormhole is based around the philosophy of survival through cunning and awareness. If you are familiar with similar titles such as Painkiller or Serious Sam you will appreciate the tense, sometimes hectic and at times chaotic nature of the game.
Wormhole was originally created for the Xbox Live Indie Game preview programme. A playable prototype was presented in a Microsoft meetup that was attended by over 50 independent game developers and press. This first release was so well received by the Indie community that it quickly became the industry standard for all XBLIG Indie titles.
The Xbox Live Indie Game program now hosts a weekly series of independent games. In this series, Wormhole: The 3D Survival Shooter was nominated and received an honorable mention by the Indie Arcade-Scene awards (www.icongratulations.com). The game was also the UK Download of the Month and nominated for the Game of the Year award by Gamereactor, an extremely prestigious game website for the games industry.
This is the first game to ever win the Game of the Year award by this revered site. Wormhole was also nominated for several other awards. From the Innovation Category, Wormhole was awarded the Best New Independent Game of the Year, and the Best Game Design. From the Best Indie Developer category, Wormhole was the only contender and came out on top with an 8/10. From the Best Independent Developer category, Wormhole was nominated with 10/10 scores but did not make it through to the final three. The trophy ceremony for the Game of the Year is in June.
This game was initially created in 2006. There have been a lot of changes to the game since its first release to now. This release version comes with the following fixes and features:
– Fixed an issue where players that had the game on their system for a while were able to see other players using the controller. This is now fixed. – Fixed an issue where multiplayer games could take an age to match up players properly. – You now have a blood meter – press up on the controller to stab into people. This meter fills and stops people bleeding. – You now have a map marker.
