Xpunge is a small, fast and very handy add-on for Thunderbird. It enhances the native Thunderbird functionality in order to allow you to empty the trash, compact the junk folders, move their contents into “Archive” folder, organize their contents using filters and so on.
Xpunge is very fast, much faster than Thunderbird’s native functionality. I really don’t know why such inovative add-on doesn’t exist before, but this is the best one I have found so far and I am continuously using it.
As mentioned, it enables you to compact multiple accounts. For example, if you have two email accounts each one in it’s own junk folder, you can remove all the contents of all the junk folders from the two accounts. It is as easy as that. It works with both POP and IMAP.
There is also a useful “timer” feature, which allows you to set Xpunge’s functionality to be performed at a specific time every day (and every week and so on). Very handy.
Besides, there is a restart button so you won’t have to restart Thunderbird after you compact junk folders using Xpunge.
Also, Xpunge does not hold the Thunderbird session in memory so you don’t have to worry about losing your messages once you have clicked “Empty trash”. When you do this operation, the messages you have in the trash will be moved into the “Archive” folder.
The “compaction” menu is not the same as “Compact Junk Folders” in Thunderbird. It is a separate menu which displays the items that can be configured.
At first there are two entries: “Compaction” and “Compact Junk Folders”.
You can click the “Compact Junk Folders” entry to configure and use Xpunge’s functionality. These are the items available when you select the “Compact Junk Folders” entry.
